If you are only going to be using the drive as Option 1 (Media Playback/Storage) then you can and should be able to ignore the “ device is too slow” message. If it is, then both consoles will prompt you to Format the hard drive … this will wipe everything on the drive and the drive can no longer be used on a PC. If you wish to use it for game installations … both consoles will run a check to see if the hard drive is supported and check if the device is fast enough. The “Speed” of the drive is not important. Typically the hard drive should be formatted exFAT (done on your PC) … Both Xbox One and PS4 support exFAT. Game footage, Screenshots, Save files etc. transferring files from the internal hard drive to the external hardrive eg. There’s 2 Ways you can use an External Hard drive with the Xbox One/PS4 ![]() I’m a PlayStation 4 owner but i googled how hard drives work with the Xbox One and they are practically the same.
